Interested in having Sonic Light Brigade perform for your event?

We do all kinds of shows...  concerts for mainstream entertainment venues, wineries. museums, music for corporate events and dinners, fundraisers, house concerts  -- if you can name the event, and even if you can't, there's a good chance we'll be willing to play it.We will travel pretty much anywhere in the United States and Canada. And scroll down this page to read what a Sonic Light Brigade concert is like and see what others are saying about the group.

It's not as hard as you think. In fact, it's really quite easy and our fees are reasonable. While we're not in this to make a fortune, we do have to support ourselves and sustain the continued growth of our art. Our main concern is that we have...

    a) the opportunity to sell our CDs (so people can take our music home with them and share it with more people...)

    b) the opportunity to perform for new people (so they can experience the music first-hand and see that our concert can be not only fun but also a meaningful experience.)

    c) our travel expenses covered. For obvious economic reasons, we can't lose money when we do a show. If we are already booking a tour in your area, you probably don't have to worry about travel expenses as we usually play enough shows to cover costs with our fee. However, if you're contacting us to do a one-off show, we'll probably need you to cover our travel expenses as well. Read more on that below.

Here's an Overview of Everything You Need to Know...

Basic Fees: Our fees do vary depending on the event and location, but generally speaking, we ask a fee of $1,500 for a concert unless there are special circumstances. If the concert is at a church or a fund-raiser, for example, and there isn't a budget for a concert event, we'll work with you to find something that works for both of us. Sometimes people want to know if they can book us for an extended gig over a block of time, say, for example, to play multiple times for a function on a cruise line tour. In that kind of situation, we'll work out a package price for that block of time that will make it much more cost effective. Bottom line: If you want to have us come play for you, don't let the fee discourage you. Talk to us. Let's see what we can work out.

Colleges and Universities: The rate will vary depending on the circumstance. If the concert is a ticketed event, an example of our fee would be $1,500 or 50% of ticket sales, whichever is greater. See the below info on travel expenses as well.

House Concerts: House concerts are a wonderful thing! They are incredibly intimate and will provide your guests with an unforgettable memory! But how, you ask, would a folk-rock band play in your home? Answer: we play unplugged, all acoustic, and with all the power and intensity of a sprawling outdoor event.  If you wish to have us come and play a concert in your home, there are a couple of  key requirements:

    a) We ask that you be willing to help promote the show to your friends, family, and acquaintances, and that you commit to doing your best to bring at least 20-30 people into your home.

    b) We try to get $1,000 for a house concert if possible, to help cover our expenses, though we know not everyone can afford that. (Our house concert fee is lower than our regular fee because we don't have to haul out as much equipment for most house gigs.) If that fee seems more than you can afford, contact us anyway, and let's see what we can arrange based on our tour schedule and availability. Financial Tip: Some folks will ask a $10/person donation from attendees to help pay the fee or even just to put that toward supporting our music. That's fine with us. Also, please read the info above about travel expenses, as that could enter into it.

Charities, Benefits, Fund Raisers: This varies depending on the event. We suggest one of two options:

  • Option 1: Find a sponsor to cover our fee, which we will reduce for appropriate charities (in such circumstances, it can drop to $1,200). Then all ticket sales and proceeds go toward the charity or benefit. If you sell tickets for $20, and sell a mere 200 seats, that's $4000 to go toward the charity. All we ask, aside from our fee, is that we can sell CDs at the event. See the below info on travel expenses as well.
  • Option 2: This is intended for smaller organizations which cannot afford our fee or cannot find a sponsor to pay it. What we'll do is simply split the ticket sales. 50% goes to us, 50% to the charity.  This is a no-lose situation for you, as the organization doesn't pay us anything up front. However, you may pay more after the fact. We would need to sit down and talk about possible travel expenses.

Weddings: Sure, we'll do nuptuals. The fee is $2,000 + travel expenses. The amount varies depending upon what is required. For example, if you just need background music for a dinner reception, that will be toward the low end. If you need music during the wedding service itself, that requires more planning and coordination.

Travel Expenses: If you're in the southcentral Washington state area, there are no travel expenses to worry about as we are based near the Columbia River Gorge between Washington and Oregon and which is (while we're taking a moment) one of the most spectacularly beautiful areas in the United States. If you're booking us as part of a concert tour we're already doing in your area, then you probably won't need to worry about travel expenses either. We've worked it into our $1,500 fee so if we can book several shows in one area, our expenses are covered by that. However, if this is a one-off concert, meaning we're coming out just for your show, then travel expenses need to be taken into consideration. We will go pretty much anywhere within the U.S. to play a concert so long as our basic expenses (air, car rental, meals, and accommodations) are covered. When you contact us, just let us know where you're located, and we can give you a general price range of what to expect. If you don't think you can afford us, contact us anyway. We may be able to include you on a tour route at some point in the near future, and if we can do that, you don't need to worry about travel expenses. Feel free to email us at info@SonicLightBrigade.com to discuss the possibilities.

Sponsorships: For help paying our fee, consider asking a local business or business person to cover our fee for the event.  In exchange, you can print their business information on a program plus we will be happy to give them a public acknowledgment/word of appreciation at the concert.

What's a Sonic Light Brigade Concert like?
Note: At events like wineries, weddings, dinner parties, coffee shops, book stores, and such, we simply play our music as background music. But at formal concerts, things can be a bit different...

  • Purpose: While we (speaking primarily for Lou and Leslie) have deep spiritual roots, we don't subscribe to any specific flavor of religious denomination, and we don't get all woo-woo in fringe spirituality,  so you won't hear us pushing a religious agenda. Still, we do have a strong sense of purpose in our art. We entertain, but we do so with an aim to lift the spirit. You can expect us to be family friendly and positive, even as our songs explore a broad range of the human emotional condition.

  • Themes: We can create a concert program to fit any theme you desire (keeping in mind our statement on Purpose above). This is particularly useful in some concert settings such as for human potential groups, for which we sometimes perform. For example, Lou's work on Purposeful Use of Music touches on the connection between psychoacoustics and human consciousness, and we can prepare a thematic program that powerfully demonstrates this connection.

  • Presence: Anybody can play music live, but you don't want a static performer for your concert just standing there like a modern-day jukebox. Neither do we. We're pleased to be known as a group that maintains a lively, engaging, and fun interaction with our audiences. In old-school terminology, that's called stage presence. You can count on that in our shows.

  • Time: Expect a show to run about two hours with a break or a little shorter without one. If you have a specific program length in mind, shorter or longer, it can be arranged.

Here's what people are saying about Sonic Light Brigade and the people in it:

“I’ve had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Lou Marzeles live and was truly rewarded. He not only has smooth vocals to match his engaging music, but he has stage presence to boot. A wonderful combination. I book a lot of music for my resort and other events, and when I find a great talent, musically and or vocally, I always then determine stage presence and how they interact with the audience, as I find this is the key ingredient for a memorable performance. Lou has the entire package, and I can honestly say he is an entertainer! Bravo!”
—Len Schulmeister, Pine Springs Resort, Goldendale, Washington

“I had the great pleasure of hearing Lou and Leslie's new music group at the Black Tie and Blue Jeans benefit event for Klickitat Valley Health. Despite playing in a large hall not noted for its acoustic qualities and to an audience that had had its share of food and wine, the group put together a remarkable set that demonstrated both their playing ability and songwriting talents. They are that good. It’s seldom in a crowd scene like that night for music to get through and affect me emotionally, but they managed, and with great style. I believe they are at the beginning of a long, fruitful career, and I will be one of the fans listening with keen interest.”
—Rodger Nichols, Haystack Broadcasting, The Dalles, Oregon

“To the people of The Dalles area who complain that there is nothing to do in this vicinity: There was a wonderful, talented musical montage by Lou Marzeles and his music group. They provided a great evening of music for our pleasure last Saturday night at the Granada Theater.”
—Donna Mollet, Melanie Brown, and Deloris Schrader, The Dalles, Oregon, in a letter to The Dalles Chronicle
